We’ve been swamped with orders and boat fixes but we’ve still had the chance to get out on the lake. Here is the Poseidon report from our past three trips including my first attempt at a video (taken on my iphone.)
Thursday night 5/10/12
Made our first trip on the pond last night after a couple expensive weeks of serious boat repairs. Luckily the lake didn’t disappoint. Ended up 14 for 14. 7 Kings, 6 Lakers and 1 Coho. All the Kings were between 9-14#. Action was between 130-160fow. Two rods caught all but two of the fish, Rigger down 115ft with a chrome Protroll flasher / Poseidon Milwaukee Minnow took 9 fish, 300 copper with a Chrome Protroll flasher / Naughty Leprechaun took 3 nice Kings. One other King came on a wire diver out 150loc with a Protroll Black Friday Flasher / Poseidon 7up. The lone coho came on a Blue Dolphin Stinger spoon on a 150 copper. That was our only spoon bite despite running 4 spoons. Fish were scattered and flasher flies dominated, with most of the kings in the 90 – 115ft deep range. Awesome start for May!
Friday Morning 5/11/12
Ended up 13 for 15. For a two man limit of 9 Kings including a 17 and 18lber, and 1 Coho. Tossed back 3 greasers. 150fow was best. Kings were down 90-150ft, no point fishing higher than 70ft if you want kings. Every fish on flasher flies. Best was the wire Dipsy out 250loc with a Wonderbread Protroll Flasher and Poseidon Naughty Leprechaun other hot rig was a 300 copper with a white Protroll and Poseidon Smooth Operator. Another awesome day on the water!
Monday Night 5/14/12
Made it out last night for a short trip. Just my dad and I, we ended up 9 for 11 in a few hours of fishing, 4-Kings, 4-Lakers and 1-Coho. 100-110fow was our most productive depth. Ran 8″ flasher flies on 5 of 6 rods and they caught all but the Coho which came on a 150 copper Ludington Watermelon spoon. Best setups were a rigger down 75ft with a White Protroll / Poseidon Gin&Tonic Frog (2Kings, 2Lakers). Wire Diver out 130loc White Protroll/Poseidon Naughty Frog (King, Laker). Rigger down 95ft with White Protroll/LBB (King, Laker). We lost 2 screamers on the 300 copper. The 300 copper was dead all night until I switched the chrome flasher to White Protroll /Poseidon Triton 8-12. Once I did that 2 fish on right away, White flashers and bright green flies were the key last night. We didn’t bother with any Coho setups, plenty of action on the Kings and big Lakers to bother. Big fish was a 16# Laker followed by a 15# King.
What a HOT start to the season!! Get out there and get in on this action while it lasts!!!
